A Day in the Life at the Decorative Design Center in Dallas – Event #4
And now, for the final chapter in the series, “A Day in the Life…”, (I saved the best for last)…..SCOTT+COONER. Thank you to my new friend, Dale Stevens, for inviting me to the showroom; it was such a fantastic treat…words elude me when trying to describe the experience – but the photos should do the trick (and this is just a hint of what you can expect to find!). This is the ultimate showroom for the up-and-coming, intelligent, forward-thinking, light-hearted (so many of their pieces will definitely put a smile on your face), intuitive and professional clientele.
With an intuitive devotion to function, line, color and balance, SCOTT+COONER began as the brainchild of Lloyd Scott and Josy Cooner in May of 1995.
Drawing on their training in architecture and interior design respectively, they offer over 30 years of combined design experience. With their shared love of classic and modern European decore they have consistently expanded their Dallas Design Center Showroom to exhibit the best of world’s great space designers.
Lloyd and Josy are dedicated to supporting the worldwide design community. While individuals are welcome to peruse the showroom and avail themselves of SCOTT+COONER‘s expertise, Lloyd and Josy firmly believe in the value added by design professionals because experience has shown that the client ultimately benefits from the consistent perspective, taste and overall knowledge the designer adds to the task of designing functional, comfortable and pleasing interiors.
A Day in the Life at the Decorative Design Center in Dallas – Event #3
I hope you’re enjoying following me in the “A Day in the Life…” series. This event was just one of my favorites – and one of the unexpected. After several seminars, it was refreshing to have a glass of wine (or two) and get an up-close and personal view of the new Fendi Showroom. Out of this world! Over the top! Lush, luxurious, elegant, rich and ultimately discriminating. It was impossible to choose, but here were some of my favs:
A Day in the Life at the Decorative Design Center in Dallas – Event #2
My second stop in “A Day in the Life…” was for a very informative seminar hosted by the Artimide showroom. The seminar was led by Leatrice Eiseman, Director of the Pantone Color Institute and focused on one of my favorite topics in design – color – more specifically, the PANTONE VIEW home + interiors for 2011. Here’s a bit of what Ms. Eiseman has to share:
There’s no doubt that in today’s complex and challenging marketplace, color has the unique ability to attract and engage the eye, elicit emotion, enhance the product or enviornment and ultimately tempt the consumer or client. Color, is, in fact, the catalyst that can spark the sale, define the space and create the magic and the mood. Choices are as varied as lifestyles, each reflecting a specific point of view and comfort level.
Cottage Industry – tried and true themes married with modern day sensibilities. Don’t call it “country” but expect pastels and neutrals. Ashley Blue; Lilac Sachet; Dapple Gray, etc.
Simply Stated – Urban rustic meets simplicity and comfort. These are much more complex colors that are casually constructed with understated style. Dusty Rose; Deep Periwinkle; Vapor Blue, etc.
Style and Substance – Elegance and sophistication; think blacks and metallics juxtaposed against blue and frosted gray, throwing in purples and wine-ish browns…yummy! Phantom; Frost Gray; Hollyhock, etc.
Clarity – Uncomplicated, straightforward, with the essence of purity. A clear definition of contrast between cool blues and greens, pure white, mystical mauve and Tibetan red; fresh! Herbal Garden; Pale Gold, Bright White, etc.
Fragments – Varying cultures come together and are woven into an integrated whole. A patchwork of amber, grenadine red, hot pink and baked clay, citron, grape, cadmium green and bright gold; think tapestries! Grenadine; Dark Citron; Baked Clay, etc.
Archetypes – Classics are the archetypes of design, which are ageless. Take a basic black, brown, beige, gray or taupe and throw in a hot accent like bossa nova red; that’s stylish retro! Bossa Nova, Black Coffee, Champagne Beige, etc.
Focal Points - Converging warm advancing shades like muskmelon and burnt coral with the drama of aurora red, purples and wines; theatrical! Cordovan, Honeysuckle, Aurora Red, etc.
Mixed Media – Various fabrications with light-reflecting properties. Complex patterning of colors like deep teal, aqua and ochre are highlighted by colors that have metallic glimmer, such as rich gold, copper and frosted almond. Rich gold, Everglade, Heather Rose, etc.
Wit and Whimsy – A fanciful palette that puts a smile on your face. Think about the last children’s film you watched; did the colors energize and intrigue? Bright Chartreuse; Sea Pink; Clematis Blue, etc.
